Written by a young mother in Kildare
Since joining the Kildare Says No group, I have been faced with the glaring reality of what our country has become and the dark path that will follow in coming years. As a mother, all you ever want to do is protect your children from the big bad world and it is a scary prospect to think of what kind of Ireland they will be growing up in.
Irrespective of whether people agree with the governments new “free for all” immigration plan, surely everyone can admit our government is falling short in each sector.
There were 11,666 children waiting on OVERDUE assessment of needs as of November 2023. Not to mention this is after the High Court found in 2022 that the HSE’s primary assessment didn’t meet the requirements for the Disability Act. Children all suspected to have disabilities, completely ignored and pushed aside by our government as they would rather allocate money to build a site like floods cross.
The waiting list to access CAMH services has increased from 2,755 in December 2020 to 4,434 at end February 2023 meaning the number of children waiting has almost doubled since Minister Stephen Donnelly took over in June 2020.
The number of people in Ireland living in emergency accommodation has reached record highs as of January 2024 with 13,531 people homeless in Ireland. Just over 4,000 of those people are CHILDREN, this is without even including those in tents, living in their cars and our hidden homeless; it is simply those in emergency accommodation. Landlords are selling up and the council are buying the properties to make into IPAS accommodation, looking at Pairc Mhuire in Newbridge now for example. That 3 bedroom house could have housed an Irish family but instead will house 3 IPAS families who will have “24/7” security, why would a family need security? The greed in this country is going to be the downfall of us all.
The average cost of a home in Kildare is €330,000 as of latest figures. I, for one, know I will never have the opportunity to own a home in Kildare. I simply will never afford it with two children.
Our youth are moving to Australia and Canada. The same people who have been highly educated in our universities and would have a great benefit to Irish society and economy.
We have a serious cost of living crisis in this country, most people are living paycheck to pay check, where does it end? The government’s response to it, raise petrol and diesel by 15c, take in people fleeing from other countries. Our own people are dying on the streets, our own people can’t afford to keep the lights on, our own people don’t feel safe in their own country, we have our own national EMERGENCY.
We need a change, and we need it as soon as possible. I would urge everyone to look for the local independent candidates who will be running in the upcoming local election. Only we can make the change, these parties have been in government for decades and all they have done is run the country into the ground, history has repeated again and again.

You don't get to betray us and smile
You don’t get to lecture us on our blood and our past,
Famine headstones paving a road any can pass.
Our villages hollow, our young forced to flee,
While newcomers are housed and our people come last —
that’s your “compassionate” decree.
We remember the coffin ships, the millions who died,
Under cold British rules and indifferent pride.
That horror was on us by foreign command —
Not a blank cheque for every stranger to claim our land.
We emigrated through hardship, built lives far a

Ode to John Devoy, a Forgotten Hero
A forgotten hero it has been said
Was born in Kill at a time many tears in this country were shed
Just before the Great Hunger this child did arrive
And lucky for us Irish he was one who would survive
An immense gra for Irish freedom he held in his heart
And it was when he was young that he first made a start
In his quest to release us Irish from beneath British rule
He was beaten for not singing “God Save the Queen” in his school
Involved in three wars he was one of a few
To take part in all conflicts and see
